Cuckoo is added to growing Red List of endangered birds in Britain
The cuckoo has joined the Red List of the most endangered bird species. For centuries its call has been a popular signal of the arrival of spring but its numbers have become so depleted that conservationists estimate that only 20,000 return each year after their winter migration to Africa, a decline of almost 40 per cent in 15 years.
