UN Security Council reform talks to start February
UN Security Council extends mission in Haiti (AP)

Haitians walk in the town of Furchy, 22 km (14 miles) from the capital Port-au-Prince, October 14, 2008. Food production in Furchy, the food basket of Port-au-Prince, has been severely disrupted after Haiti was hit by four storms -- Fay, Gustav, Hanna and Ike -- in the space of about a month, killing at least 800 people and damaging farms. The recent flooding left behind vast amounts of mud, partly because 98 percent of Haiti's forests had been destroyed, allowing earth to be washed down from the hills. REUTERS/ Eduardo Munoz (HAITI)AP - The U.N. Security Council voted unanimously Tuesday to renew its peacekeeping mission in Haiti for another year, saying it is important for the troops to keep working with the government to reduce violence and crime.
