T he scenario was all too familiar. It would start with a village property “in
need of renovation”, which, although priced beyond its owner’s wildest
dreams, would sell immediately. Then a shiny new 4WD would screech to a halt
outside, and a mound of smart suitcases, a few excited children and a
labrador puppy would leap out to embrace the country lifestyle, while an
immense furniture lorry from Fulham would block the lane from verge to verge
while they unpacked.
