When the 28-year-old knitwear designer Mark Fast speaks, it is in a soft,
slow, breathy tone. He wraps his mouth around words like a male Monroe. You
can’t imagine him raising his voice above a whisper, let alone swearing. Yet
Fast has found himself at the centre of an almighty fashion controversy. “I
didn’t think it would get so much attention. I just thought, ‘They’re
beautiful. Let’s do it. Let’s have fun.’” he says of his decision to put
three “plus-size” models on his London Fashion Week catwalk. The
consequences are still reverberating around the fashion industry.
